Chimney Services

Consulting

T & T offers independent objective expertise for all matters involving your chimney.

A thorough inspection detailing the obvious and fine points of a chimney most often missed by the general home contractor. This service delivers a report; detailing the existing condition of the chimney, code violations, fire hazards recommended repairs and safety tips.

We provide consultation on rebuilding with masonry, metal high temp flues or prefabricated fireplaces, chimney maintenance, smoking and drafting problems, masonry tuckpointing, flue relining and current safety standards.

We can evaluate conflicting inspection reports, bids for repairs or to just consult on the method of construction for a new chimney.

Sweeping

Stove pipe cleaning from the top

Setup of a chimney cleaning

Chimneys need periodic examination and a thorough cleaning to maintain efficiency and to reduce the chance of a chimney fire. All forms of creosote can occur in a chimney. Build-up of creosote and soot that accumulates on the chimney walls reduces the draft needed by the stove or fireplace. Creosote is flammable and can easily fuel a chimney fire. Sweeping removes this dangerous, flammable creosote from inside the chimney.

Stage 3 Creosote Removal

Varying temperatures within the chimney causes the creosote to solidify on the internal surfaces of the chimney and build up. This black glossy residue is Stage 3 creosote, the major cause of chimney fires. It is removed only through mechanical or chemical procedures.

Repair/Installations

Flue Liner Replacement

The Chimney Flue is how toxic gases, embers and smoke exits your home. As a chimney ages, original clay and terra cotta liners deteriorate and create cracks that allow these gases, embers and smoke to enter your home. This creates a dangerous situation within your home.

Your options; an expensive tear down and rebuild of your chimney and flue or the professional relining of your existing flue chamber with a stainless steel-liner.

A stainless-steel liner installed within a failing flue will restore a chimney to a safe efficient operation at a fraction of the cost compared to the alternative teardown and rebuild option.

Flue Extensions

Do you have multiple flues or a down draft problem? By adding a flue extension to a pre-existing chimney you eliminate smoke and excessive carbon monoxide gases in the home.

Chimney Caps

Chimney caps have as many functions as there are styles. Not only does your chimney cap keep rain, animals and debris out, but more importantly Caps correct draft and wind problems.

Masonry

Water Repellent

Chimneys require special attention and maintenance to prevent costly damage caused by water penetration. They are vulnerable to the elements; nearly every chimney has signs of water damage. This water damage may include corrosion, deterioration, dimensional damage, efflorescence, freeze-thaw spalling, staining, damage to interior finishes, and structural failure.

Water damage can be prevented.

The application of ChimneySaver Water Repellent reduces water penetration into the masonry by 99.9%.

FireBox and Firebrick Repair

The mortar and brick of Masonry and refractory panels of Prefabricated FireBoxes withstand extreme temperatures. This heat coupled with rainwater seeping down the chimney through a deteriorating crown causes mortar joints and refractory panels to often crack and disintegrate. A Firebox with this weakness is hazardous and in need of repair prior to use.

These flaws can be corrected by replacing cracked Firebrick and mortar with refractory brick, cement and fire clay. We custom form and pour refractory panels for an exact match in Prefabricated FireBoxes.

Crown Repair

Crowns stop damage from happening to your chimney and Firebox. Crowns are important elements of the chimney; keeping water from entering the chimney and causing deterioration of the brick and masonry.
